Criminal Defense

Colette Tvedt is a nationally known trial attorney and lecturer who has been practicing criminal defense for over 20 years. She has tried hundreds of cases in front of judges and juries in both Massachusetts and Washington in state and federal court. A graduate of the Reid School of Interrogation, Colette is a recognized expert in police interrogation techniques and also has significant expertise in the area of eyewitness identification. Colette represents a broad range of clients facing investigation or prosecution for white collar crimes, violent crimes, property crimes, drug crimes, serious felonies and misdemeanors.
 
After obtaining her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 1989, Colette served as a public defender in Boston (MA) before becoming a Clinical Professor of Law at Suffolk University. She moved to Seattle in 2006, where she worked as a felony trial attorney at The Defender Association (TDA) before joining Schroeter, Goldmark & Bender in 2007.
 
Colette is a frequent lecturer and moderator at local and national training programs, and has been invited to speak in over twenty states. Colette is also a respected teach of trial advocacy, most recently teaching at the University of Washington School of Law.  She is a faculty member of the National Criminal Defense College and a past participant in the Oxford University Roundtable on International Criminal Justice.


Results About
  • Obtained acquittal in federal court jury trial representing Native American cigarette manufacturer charged with Trafficking in Contraband Cigarettes.

  • Obtained dismissals of second-degree murder charges against a King County man after extensive pretrial investigation convinced the prosecution that they had charged the wrong man, and of first-degree murder charges against a King County man in a complex murder case, after pretrial investigation of witnesses and forensic evidence convinced the prosecution that he was not guilty.
