Martin Garfinkel

Martin Garfinkel

Class Actions | Employment Law

Marty has provided high quality representation for employees and unions since 1982.  He has handled virtually every type of employment case, and has brought many successful class action cases against employers who violated state and federal laws requiring pay for work performed, overtime wages, and break time.  Marty represents victims of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and also represents consumers in class actions against banks and escrow companies who engage in unfair and deceptive practices in real estate transactions.  Learn more about SGB's recent class actions cases.

Marty joined Schroeter Goldmark & Bender in January, 2000. Before that, he was a partner in the Seattle firm of Rosen Freed Garfinkel & Roberts where he represented employees and unions.  Between 1982 and 1990, Marty practiced labor and employment law in New York City. His years of experience in the employment and labor law field ensure that his clients will receive vigorous and effective representation.  He is admitted to practice in Washington and several federal courts.

Results About
Marty has obtained numerous large verdicts and settlements on behalf of individuals and large classes of employees.  In one lawsuit, he was class counsel for over 14,000 employees in a wage case against the state personnel system and achieved a $30 million settlement.  His cases have also resulted in a number of important court decisions.  Along with other SGB attorneys, Marty has represented the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, as a Special Assistant Attorney General, in litigation that successfully defended the Department's decision to increase the State minimum wage.  Marty has been named a Washington Super Lawyer since 2003.
