HAMMER V. COLUMBIA TITLE CO., ESCROW FEE CLASS ACTION
SGB, along with co-counsel Guy Beckett and Rob Williamson, has filed a class action lawsuit in alleging that Columbia Title Co. breached its contract with borrowers and violated the Washington Consumer Protection Act by charging borrowers unnecessary or excessive fees during the escrow process, including reconveyance, shipping, and handling fees.
The court granted preliminary approval of a proposed settlement of the case on December 20, 2012. A short form notice of the proposed settlement and a claim form with respect thereto, was mailed to all class members. A long form notice, attached below, explains the settlement and class member options in more detail. If potential class members wished to participate in the settlement, they were required to mail in the claim form, attached below, no later than March 7, 2013. If potential class members wished to be excluded from the case, they were required to mail in the request for exclusion form attached below, no later than March 7, 2013.
Final settlement approval was granted on May 10, 2013 by Clark County Superior Court Judge Barbara Johnson. Settlement awards will be distributed by the end of June 2013 to class members who filed timely claims.
